Things to do

You would think that a teenager coming to the island would be bored. She/he is going to roll their eyes and sigh all the time. But I'll tell you, that IS not the case! I actually have the objective evidence of a 15-year old daughter who knows how to roll those eyes, but on Wellesley Island she doesn't do that. So what is the secret? Letting her sit with her phone glued to her hands or hold on to the laptop all the time? No, no and no. She really enjoys coming up to the island. And I am not lying.

It takes us approximately 5 hours to drive from CT to the island. Well, it depends on who's driving, me or Jonas. Go figure! Just gotta love Waze.

Well, back to our teenager. What does she do on an island? First of all, she has her own room where she can relax, read (that's what I'm hoping she's doing) or draw. Sometimes she brings out the big puzzle and sits on the floor for hours and being quiet, which doesn't happen often. The quietness, I mean.

With such a beautiful environment and the lovely gravel road, the road tempt you into a nice walk or why not a run. Our daughter is doing that more or less every day. After the run, she works out near the water so she can jump in when she is done. And it doesn't matter if it is October (and no ice). Did I tell you I am originally from Finland, and that means she is half Finn and we have this weird thing of jumping into cold water. Usually that requires a sauna. And one day I am going to build a sauna here. Wohooo!

What is left after reading, running and swimming? Go boating and fishing, of course! As mentioned before, the fishing part is not from me. I can see myself sitting there (with a fishing license of course) dipping the fishing pole into the water. But when the pole starts jerking, I am done! Looking into the fish's eyes is not the greatest pleasure. Not for me at least.

Here are the "objective evidences" of a teenager on an island:

The Teenager boating and the looks are important. I'm rolling my eyes...

This is tempting, right?

It is breathtaking

Working out!

This is in October!

And you can go tubing!
Stay tuned!

Welcome

This is the first post of many regarding the beautiful place we bought in October 2018. It's a place we've been visiting for years since we came to the United States. So what is the story behind it and how did we find it?

When Jonas, my husband, studied geography in elementary school back in Sweden (like thousands of years ago), he found an interesting place, called Thousand Islands. His reason of going deeper into the studies was all the water he could see on the map. And yes, my husband is obsessed with water or water systems. Not so much beaches and therefore you do not find us on a beach, more on lakes and rivers.

Well, well, at young age, Jonas decided to visit the Thousand Islands when an opportunity popped up. And so it did! It didn't take long after our move over the pond, from Sweden to USA, to have a look at the Thousand Islands. BAM, and we both fell in love. Ok, we were already in love with each other, this was a love to a spectacular nature that this offers you.

Some of our friends had never heard or didn't know where (and what) this Thousand Islands thingy was, so we had to teach them a bit about  North American geography. Jonas did, I just rolled my eyes because I had no idea of this paradise either!

If you know where St Lawrence River is, that's pretty much you need to know, if you ask me, but if you ask Jonas he will explain all the dots and connections between the waters like lakes, rivers and sea. If the water comes from the sea into the river or vice versa, who cares. The islands are surrounded by water, right?

One of the most beautiful islands in the river is Wellesley Island. THAT must be paradise, designed by God or someone with a magic wand. Not only easy accessible because there is a bridge to the island so I can actually go there without freaking out when I see big waves!

On Wellesley Island there is a lake, Lake of the Isle. Wait, there is a lake on the island in the river? That IS cool, right? That specific lake is the gem. At least for us. And going up there and renting a house for several years, there was something growing in our heads. A dream. A dream of our own place.

Couple of years ago we started to look around. The only spot I preferred was on the same gravel road we've been driving during our visits up there. It is close to the boat launch, nature center, store, great fishing and swimming. The fishing is not a passion of mine, but I have to believe my husband on that. And he spends some time on the lake or in the river, fishing. The "some time" should be translated to  "24/7", if you ask me.

Suddenly, there it was. Just in front of us. THE house we've been dreaming of. More to come so stay tuned!

Closer to water than this you can't come, right?

This is like a dream. Planning to extend the dock with a big platform in the end of the dock.

A nice gathering in evenings. Why not make smores?

Having my coffee in the morning and watching out on this! Really?

For those who likes studying a map (like my husband) here you go...yes, it's a map of St Lawrence River.
So please follow me on this blog and I will try to keep it updated as much as possible!

Enjoying the place through the guests

I am saying it again, our renters ARE the best! They send and share with us their moments from our Paradise, meaning I can enjoy the place t...
